Integrating Google Play Billing & In-App Purchases (IAP) in Unity 2026
Sep 05, 2026While advertising generates consistent revenue for casual games, In-App Purchases (IAP) often account for the lion's share of mobile gaming profits. Unity makes IAP integration straightforward through its official Unity IAP package, which complies with Google Play's latest Billing Library requirements.
1. Types of In-App Purchases
Before adding products to the Google Play Console, understand the two primary product types:
- Consumables: Items that can be purchased repeatedly, such as coin packs, extra lives, or stamina potions. Once consumed, the player can buy them again.
- Non-Consumables: Permanent upgrades purchased once per account, such as "Remove Ads", unlocking premium character skins, or unlocking the full game campaign.
2. Installing and Configuring Unity IAP
In your Unity editor, go to Window > Package Manager, select Unity Registry, and install the In-App Purchasing package. Once installed, navigate to Services > In-App Purchasing and link your Unity project ID.
3. Setting up Product IDs
Maintain consistent product naming conventions across both Unity and Google Play Console. For example:
com.yourgame.remove_ads(Non-consumable)com.yourgame.coins_100(Consumable)com.yourgame.coins_500(Consumable)
4. Restoring Purchases
Google Play automatically restores non-consumables linked to the user's Google account when they re-install the app. Make sure your IAP management script checks purchase receipts on launch and grants purchased perks (such as suppressing ad display if "Remove Ads" is active).
